Setting Your Ally ip100 IP address to 169.254.1.1

NOTE: The Ally ip100 is designed to be installed in a running network that is connected to the Internet.

If the Ally ip100 is being installed in an isolated environment, such as an evaluation lab, you will need to set a static IP address for the unit, using one of two methods. The first method is to install the unit first in a typical network with access to the Internet. After installation, you can access the management pages and assign the IP address using Internet Explorer.

If you don't have access to the Internet, you can use the following physical reset method to force the Ally ip100 to use 169.254.1.1  :

Getting Started:

For this embedded address assignment to work, you will need two devices, powered up, with RJ-45 (ethernet 10BaseT or 100BaseT) ports and correct cables.

  1. Connect the Internet/WAN interface on the Ally ip100 to some other device's ethernet port, using the proper cable as defined on the previously.
  2. Connect the LAN interface on the Ally ip100 to some other device's ethernet port, using the proper cable.
  3. Apply power to both devices and wait until they have completed their bootup sequence.
  4. Apply power to the Ally ip100
  5. Wait about 30 seconds
  6. You should see a solid LED light has been lit at both ends of the Ally ip100. (If not, you likely have used the wrong type of cable on the un-lit end.)
  7. The following 5 steps must be performed AND completed within three minutes:
  8. Unplug the ethernet cable on the LAN side of the Ally ip100. Plug it back in and wait until you see the solid connection light has again lit up.

  9. Unplug and re-connect this SAME cable again. Wait until you see the solid connection light has again lit up.

  10. Unplug the ethernet cable on the Internet/WAN side of the Ally ip100. Plug it back in and wait until you see the solid connection light has again lit up.

  11. Unplug and re-connect this SAME cable again. Wait until you see the solid connection light has again lit up.

  12. Change back to the LAN side and again plug and re-connect the ethernet cable on the Ally ip100

Upon completing step 12, the Ally ip100 will reboot. It will take approximately 45 seconds for the rebot to occur. Once the solid connection light has lit, your Ally ip100 has been assigned 169.254.1.1 for an IP address on the LAN interface. Set your test network equipment up accordingly in order to access the management pages to continue. At least one computer attached to the LAN side of the Ally ip100 must use 169.254.?.? in order to make this connection. (Where the ? is a number in the range of 1-254.)
